Ahoy!
Thanks for stopping by. My name is Hong and I’m the other half of Sailing Lutris. You know how some people say, “Sailing is in my blood”? Yeah, well that’s not me. The only experience I’ve ever had being on a boat is that time my family and I escaped Vietnam in 1977 aboard a fishing boat. Fortunately, we were rescued off the coast of the South China Sea and here I am today.
So how did I get myself on this path anyhow? Back in 2012, The Skipper’s uncle made us a deal on a Baba 30 we couldn’t pass up. We took her out for short afternoon sails on Lake Union and I was smitten. Not enough to learn anything though, just smitten enough to enjoy afternoon sails with cocktails and charcuterie. Fast forward to 2016 when The Skipper came across “a really good deal” on a Norseman 447. The only thing I heard him say was, “we can travel the world” and I was in. All In.
I grew up in the beauty that is also known as the Pacific Northwest. You would think with all the water surrounding us I would be proficient in all things water related, unfortunately that’s not the case. Buuuut, this will be the story of how I’m trying to figure it out and eventually be a full time cruiser.
Now, I’m taking it a tad more serious and starting to envision my life as a full-time cruiser in a few years. Come along for the ride as I share all my highlights, and meltdowns. Probably mostly meltdowns, as I navigate the life of a sailor with the blood of city girl.
Fair winds,
City Girl
